Polio Day 24th October, and the Tour de Clacks Challenge
Fundraising during a global pandemic is massively challenging. But Rotary, like other fundraising organisations, simply has to find a way to keep their work afloat while not being able to meet people face to face. Can you help? Alloa Rotary is one of thousands of Rotary clubs across the world taking action for World Polio Day, to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio. Here in Clackmannanshire from 9th – 24th October we are promoting The Tour de Clacks Challenge!
Eradicating Polio from the world is Rotary’s ongoing flagship global challenge.
The Polio virus mainly attacks young children and can cause severe disability or even death, has absolutely no cure but can be prevented by a simple vaccine.
In August, Rotary and the world celebrated a significant milestone, as the World Health Organization certified the Africa region free from wild polio. This leaves just Pakistan and Afghanistan as the two remaining polio endemic countries in the world.
Sadly, however, we now all know only too well that a virus is literally just a plane ride away; Unless we completely wipe the poliovirus off the face of the earth it will come back everywhere.
Can we end polio forever?
Thanks to our partners the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, every £1 we raise from your registration donations is matched 2-to-1 (so is worth £3!).
Will you take the Tour de Clacks Challenge and help Rotary and our partners reach the goal of a polio free world for everyone, forever?
